Nina Kinoti-Metz was raised in numerous countries in Africa. One of her favorite past times of visiting the open air markets exposed her to the concept of color and pattern which gave rise to a keen interest in painting and birthed her love for art and design.  She undertook a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Binghamton University with specialization in Printmaking and Drawing. While living in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington DC, Nina managed an art gallery and high end furniture retail/design store, while continuing to pursue her art career and having numerous exhibits. Later, while going for a master's degree in Interior Architecture from Pratt Institute, Nina and Christopher met and wed after her graduation in 2006. With tenures at some design giants such as FXFOWLE Architects, Clodagh Design and then Dattner Architects, she honed her design skills and quickly worked her way up to project manager while working on many different project types from commercial interiors to high end residential,  civic/educational projects to luxury hotels and retail.

Christopher Metz began the office in 2004 with the goal of doing the kind of design work he dreamed out while  getting his master's in architecture at Kansas State University, Kansas and later at Eidgenossiche Technische Hochschule in Zurich Switzerland. Though he continued to work at several prestigious firms such as Swanke Hayden Connell Architects, BBG and Robert Siegel Architects, he wanted to try his hand at doing things his way.  The idea was to have a small office size which would allow for agility and adaptability to numerous project types while providing exceptional attention to detail in all aspects of the process - from budget analysis and project planning, to design and documentation, through construction observation and styling.

As partner's our belief is that great design can be achieved by utilizing readily available materials and simple techniques, exploiting them in new ways and achieving new solutions without great expense. Studio Parallel’s approach is to translate clients’ goals and culture into unique environments that are thoughtful, expressive and timeless.
